J.M. Antolin born in Spain, resides in New York City. Most recently exhibited his mural-sized painting (oil on linen), Denial of Masquerade; The Archons in Chelsea’s 2/20 Gallery – Aug. 2009. Covering the entire East wall of the gallery in a scene depicting an oversized pistol-wielding Bin Laden with a single tear streaming down his cheek as he threatens a child’s life in the midst of his terrorists’ carnival. Clearly a controversial piece which drew attention and was dubbed “The American Guernica” by media.
More On The Artist
In Gallery 2 / 20 New York poet and Spanish painter José Maria Antolin explains his mural "Denial of Mascarade." The canvas measured in proportion to the surface of the powerful content deals with the poetic imagery of a violent carnival, the complexities of the United States' recent history in relation to war and terrorism after 11 September ".
The impact is ensured by a detailed sociological and artistic urgently: the figure snatched the canvas is unmistakable and almost offensively, that of Osama Bin Laden . The offensive potential lies in the fact that the terrorist's face appears in tears. She cries while holding a naked child, very white and very fragile, which does not preclude worrying amorphous finishes. This figure is half the Infant Jesus of Prague, in the shadows half larva. Around a certain logic and wise men are the other figures and representations, including an Arab who says Antolin exists in real life, a Visigoth column of his invention, references to the empire and the eternal recurrence of crimes crowned . Etc.
